Echoes of a Century: The Paul-is-Dead Rumour

…back on the 17th of September, 1969, someone at the Drake University Times-Delphic in Des Moines wondered in print whether Paul McCartney was alive or dead. Within a month, the rumour of Macca’s demise and the other Beatles’ allegedly dropping hints on albums as early as Help! in 1965 had spread to universities all across the United States and Canada, and really became huge when Roby Yonge decided to make his last overnight show on WABC New York largely about the rumour. A lot of the assorted broadcast material resulting from the rumour, including the Russ Gibb WKNR Dearborn/Detroit and Yonge’s WABC swan song, are included here…
